Better Spark?

I was wondering what all these "spark enhancing" units actually did on an
old CIS vw.

Any one use one (ie: msd, etc)and have any oppinions?

I need to know if they are even worth the cost, and if so which units
(brands/models, etc) are a decent choice for a MK1 Roc.
