Turbo vs. Supercharger.

As Eric said, superchargers are not worth anything at altitude. Lucky
for me, I live at 45 feet above sea level! The thing I like about my
C230's supercharger is the evenness of the power throughout the band,
no wait for the turbo to spool up, as long as you are in the *VERY*
wide power band you are set.

The 192 HP at 5500 RPM figure does not mean much, but the 205 ft/lbs
of torque at 2500 rpm all the way up to 4800 rpm kicks ass! Just ask
Josh Able who drove my car once (flame suit on, hey I was REAL sick
okay), no real need to shift unless you want good gas mileage, the
power is always there. Or ask Brett V. who was shifting all over the
place to keep up with me on the way home from H20 last year, I just
kept it in 4th the entire time and never had to shift unless we went
over 105 MPH or under 40 MPH. ;-)

Not all superchargers will provide this kind of torque "curve" (mine
is really flat for 2300 RPM, not much of a curve) but my engine &
supercharger combination's "curve" is just an extreme example of this.

Since this topic has come up again....I'll make the same point I
always do.

Since I am a "high lander" at 5200 ft high here in Denver, and
regularly go to the mountains, I would NEVER install a supercharger on
any of my dubs. With its static spin rate it has NO way to compensate
for the thinner air up here and boosts much less at altitude.

A turbo, with its freewheeling/free power nature will actually spin
faster at altitude to make the same boost and does an effective job at
almost completely overcoming altitude loss, where NA and supered cars
cannot.

Many of you were impressed by Marc Gettys (spelling?) C230 Kompressor
at Cincy this year...I'll tell you this, those things are absolute
DOGS up here...I know, I test drove one and was throughly
dissapointed...
