(Very Long Rant)Worst Day Ever - Help me identify what happened to my car

fuel pump passed on? or maybe the fuel pump relay?

The thing about the other drivers is typical, and will probably never
change, unless you move to a place where people have respect for thier
fellow man, but I don't think they have roads there. on the other hand, I
stop at least once a week on my way home from work to help a stranded VW on
hill 60 (a long hill on the highway here) but those that I help usually tell
me that they've been there for a while, and are really thankful for anything
I can do.

Is it just me? Am I the only one that will stop to help a stranded motorist?
