im just making a prettier tube with a larger diameter to go from the throttle body to the air box. i allready have one made of 3" thin walled pvc but it isnt as cool as i would like and it has a bunch of ugle vacuum connections on it. i found some 3" aluminum pipe that i am going to try to bend/weld (i know it is going to be very challenging, but i found alot of it). if it ever turns out to work and look good ill be sure to let the list know.

I'd remove this box for better airflow anyway (I think a few screws does it) and plug where the line went on the boot. The other one that has a T on it comes from the AC controls (trace it through the firewall and it goes into that big black box). The other end of the T that goes into the fender goes to the vacuum reservoir. I have this line completely removed, and heat still works fine... just make sure you plug the line at the vacuum reservoir if you remove it. Of the three big lines on the intake boot, one (far right) is removable (pluggable) if you take out the carbon canister, the other (middle) is removable if you hook a breather filter to the engine, and the last (far left) is needed for proper idle (connects to the idle air stabilizer).
Removing the carbon canister also gets rid of a few other vacuum lines. Here's how to do it (I'm uploading this now): http://www.epix.net/~rrcehock/scirocco/tech_cc.htm
I'd suggest taking it out to remove some more clutter you don't need. Takes 10 minutes.
Just out of curiosity, how do you plan on making an intake considering the fuel control system is tied into the air filter lid? I'd be interested to see this.
Hope this helps! Any other questions, just ask.
