Alternator install question...

I got a new alternator for my 16V because my old one was shot, and since I had the old one off, I returned it for a core refund before installing the new one... but now I think I might have needed to take something off the old one.  Is there a wire that runs along the side of the alternator at several points (not including any connections)?  Can anyone provide a pic of their (90 amp) alternator, on the connection side.  Thanks.
