bolt-on crossmember progress



The crossmember bar project took some bigger steps towards completion this
weekend - I succeeded in building 4 of the 6 pieces that bolt
together. Here are some pics:

Here's another shot of a side bracket - obviously it is not finished yet..
but the bar will bolt right there to the bottom of the bracket:

(the cutout for the power steering hoses is only on the passenger side
bracket, of course)

And here is a picture of the "stub ends" made on my Dad's metal lathe.
They slide inside the main square tube, allowing it to be bolted to the
brackets (since there is no material to bolt to in the end of a hollow tube)

There's still quite a bit of work ahead - cutting, fitting, grinding,
prepping/priming and painting.. but I'm happy to be moving forward with
this finally. The cracks haven't gotten any better so time is of the
essense.. I hope to have sun this weekend so I can finish everything but
the paint job.
