The 200 Hp should be a piece of cake with minor boost if you're planning =
aftermarket EFI.
Couple thoughts from doing an ABA cross flow conversion into my nephew's =
Jetta and my own aborted turbo install.
Getting the intake away from the exhaust is good, but with the cross =
flow it's even better because it allows you to turn the turbo over. More =
clearance to the firewall and more room for the downpipe which is pretty =
squashed in a normal 8V installation.
Also, my nephew's ABA (internally stock, TT exhaust, home grown CAI, =
stock ignition, Megasquirt EFI) is amazingly spunky compared to my ABA =
short block, TT ported GTI head, Haltech EMS considering it's head is =
STOCK. The cross flow head flows really well.
Last, the stock ABA TB has some advantages compared to the 16V TB. First =
it bolts right to the cross flow manifold. Second, it already has a TPS, =
which you need for any aftermarket EFI. Third, a regular old round pipe =
can mate to it with a simple silicon hose. Doesn't sound like a big =
deal, but I've fabbed an adapter from round pipe to the funky oval TB =
intake and it would have been simpler to just cut the end off the =
manifold and weld on a flange to mount the single plate ABA TB.
Throttle linkage to the ABA TB should mate right up to your existing =
throttle cable.
Only issue in my mind is manifold clearance to the hood.

Subject: Forced Induction ?: X-Flow versus JH head

I posted this question on the Vortex FI board and got =
less-than-desirable answers. Maybe you guys can help:

I have a complete JH engine that was rebuilt ~15k miles ago by the PO. =
But it seems apparent to me that a X-flow head would offer a better =
advantage in terms of distance from the heat of the exhaust manifold =
versus the JH head (not to mention supposed closer proximity to any IC =
piping...)

But using a x-flow head in an mk1 scirocco would most likely require =
some reasonably extensive modifications to the intake and throttle =
linkages, right?=20

It's not that I'd be opposed to that or the $$ required if the benefit =
was significant enough, I'm just curious if the bang is worth the buck =
in this case... The goal is:=20

  ~200hp (streetable (@ ~15psi?)), scirocco 16v throttle body, A5KTQ IC, =
and SDS (most likely) EFI

  Thanks in advance, JT
