I don't have anything written down, but I measured uncompressed and =
compressed gasket thickness when I first built my 2.0. My recollection =
is that there was very little (almost no) compression of the composite =
head gasket. So, I'm with Larry on this.

Just measured (man, it's cold out in the garage!) a used head gasket =
from a JH. It's exactly .070" thick at the metal portions. Note: it may =
be a few thou thinner when under compression, i.e.in a properly torqued, =
assembled engine.

    http://www.headgasket.com/

Any thickness you want down to 0.022" That's more or less as thick =
as
your thumbnail. For comparison, a stock, composite uncompressed
headgasket is 0.075" - I just measured one. I would SWAG that the
stock gasket compresses 40% tops, that's 0.030", or still 0.008"
thicker than the thinnest copper. =20

Anyone got a used stock headgasket around to measure, for a reality
    check on its compressed thickness?

    Ron
