And as far as the wiring...
If you don't know what your doing might as well forget it all!
If u want a good water tight connection then:
- Twist the wires together 
- Solder them together 
- Put liquid tape on them 
- Heat shrink tubing
and that wont fail !
I used it on hundreds of cars and we give lifetime warranty on our work!
Maybe 1 or 2 in 3 years have returned and they were due to sensor
failures or Sensors out of adjustment.

ahh, but the remote isn't the weak link in the system, its the wiring
and
solenoids that tend to have the most problems.
