adjusting wiper travel

Last night after using my wipers all day, they suddenly decided to go from normal travel distance to going from about 1/4 the way up my windshield to completely off the side of the car. Why the sudden change and how do I adjust it back? Do I undo the bolt of the arms and realign or is there something else I adjust?
