Runners on 2.0 vs. 1.8, 16v

Rick,

My plans are to leave mine alone for now and later look for a Euro intake
that will allow me to leave everything where it is and still benefit from
the larger runners. The Euro manifold is even larger than the ones that
came on your 2.0L. I have heard the larger openings for either set up
produce more lower end hp, but leave the higher end alone.

BTW,

I have only had about a half hour each night to work on the motor to prep it
for the swap. The fist night I got both manifolds off, the throttle body
and various mounts and hoses off the top end of the block. Last night
(night two) I quickly got the valve cover off and went to work on the head.
The bolt have some wicked torque on them. Took me a few minutes (about 15)
to get the right combo of tools to break them loose, but then the came off
one right after another quickly. (My shoulders and pecks are killing me
today.) The head came off super easy with the bolts freed. I am now looking
at the head gasket down. Man it looks exciting.

Question to those who have done this before. What should the tops of the
pistons look like? Are they supposed to be perfectly shiny like the pistons
you see in catalogs? What exactly should I expect to see on the surface?
Pictures would be helpful.

TIA,

The intake runners on a 16v, 2.0l motor are larger than the runners on
the 1.8l. The manifold volume (the space between the throttle body and
the runners) is also larger. Is it worth keeping the larger runners and
moving the fuel lines (and stock fuel injection, engine management) to
the passenger side? At that point you might as well switch the Motronic
over too however, I am not looking forward to that swap. I was just
envisioning keeping the 1.8l head and FI as the easiest set up.
Any comments?
