[scirocco] Getting the Tranny back in the car...

heh, wiggle, grunt, wiggle, cuss, grunt, wiggle, cuss some more....make sure
that fucking heat-shield plate is gone.....if not, cuss, grunt, wiggle some
more.....or take it off.....it's the one on the back side by the pass-side
drive axle...

Good luck....

it can be a bitch, I grunted for like 4~5 hours on one and finally gave up,
my dad came over that weekend and reached under there and *pop*, had it
right in.....I was quite mad. But haven't needed help again. You gotta kinda
line it straight up, so yeah, drop the driver's side of the engine a bit,
but not too much, there's a specific angle that seems to work good for me.

Rest, drink water, cuss frequently. Then prepare to enjoy the Scirocco once
again.......

And on a personal note, I'm driving the Sportruck because the synchronizers
are going-going----gone in my FF under the Roc.....too many miles of pulling
1/2 Roc #2 (the trailer), and towing Roc #3 200 miles didn't help any
either.

Any one know where I can get an FF or FN tranny in TPA (or within 100 miles)
for around $100~$150 or so?

Thanx and HTH with your trans prob!

Ok, I had to take my tranny out to fix a broken steering rack stud. So
that's done and I'm having trouble getting the thing back in. I could
use a little advice on what will make it easier. What I tried was
lowering that side of engine so the tranny could fit on and then be
lifted back up into engine bay. I was able to get the tranny up in the
right position but could not get that rod to go into the center hole so
the tranny had another half inch to go. All this was done by me
basically bench pressing it or leg lifting it into place. Should I go
get a tranny jack?

One thing I'm concerned about is that I accidentally turned the engine
so I don't know if my big problem is that the gear things aren't meshing
when I try to push the tranny into place. I don't know, maybe its just
not a one person job. Any advice is appreciated.
