Megasquirt: group buy / assemble ?

Ok folks,
I have a deal for ya. (GRM guy talking so you know there's something in it
for the racecar for free -- taking donations again.. yes already plan is
for the top 15 next year).

If you know what megasquirt is you know im talking to you if not then you
dont then go google and read up on it. its Electronic Fuel injection.

So here is the deal.
Im willing to put my electronic skills on the table for barter so I can
get a megasquirt for the car. Here is the basic plan. If there is
sufficient interest.

The megasquirt system has some basic components.

ECU
Relay box (so you can mount megasquirt ECU inside your leaky rocco.
sensors
wiring harness

then there is a stimulator board that you plug it into to test and
configure. A basic megasquirt ECU + relay box costs about $180 in parts

the stimulator box costs about $50.00

Then you have to put it together. and build your wiring harness.
if a few people want to go in on a purchase. we can build some very nice
systems.

What I think. CIS is good to about 170-180 HP. You can upgrade the fuel
system to a larger 240T CIS distributor. and get to about 220.

The people who generally want this are looking to be boosted or nitrous
injectioned folks who need ALOT more gas and dont want to screw with digi1
etc.

Basic iterations of the upgrades.
1.8L low comp (turbo)

1.8L G60 (turbo or supercharger)

1.8T 20v elimnates need for FI but not ignition -- not an option until
megajolt or GRM special comes online

2.0L xflow (turbo and non-turbo)
2.0L 8v CIS head (turbo and non-turbo)

2.0L 16v (tunability)
2.0L 16v (turbo / supercharger)

all these types of upgrades can benefit from a clean megasquirt install.
with a group type buy of wiring, parts, and some distributed work there
could be some very nice megasquirt installs on the list.

Issues.
sensor layouts and wiring lengths
metal fabrication of the enclosure boxes. purchase is easily avail, but
faceplate cutout is the issue.
electronic parts assembly and test.
They use some basic non weather/harsh environment connectors we might want
to upgrade, cause well - A1's leak.... alot... often ... right on fuse
boxes..
This only supplies the electronics. we need to find an easy and cheap
solution for mountable fuel rails for the stock 8v head, stock 16v head,
the xflow, g60, 20v all have one already. The best solution IMHO would be
a stock VW part like the late model cabby digi2 fuel rail, but pressure
issues may be a problem for really high boost apps.

A starting/default map for each of these motors.

Just so you know the GRM car was going to use the stock Jetronic and knock
box for ignition mapping and a little electronic magic. But we gotta have
the car running first.

So now it boils down to cost.
the fixed purchase of the stimulator and screws is about 70.00 for the
first 5 and and extra $30.00 for each additional set of 5.

The fee for this will be 1 megasquirt kit / 5 built --> these will go
toward a GRM car first -- sporting rocco.org stickers if none are needed
any additional will be traded off to support GRM cars.

Without the wiring harness or engine sensors that you will need. cost per
purchaser is approximately as follows
group buy members cost / member
3 - ~330.00
4 - 295.00
5 - 271.00
10 - 250.00

This is an estimate all labor is donated.
We can make nice wiring harnesses, but it will take some experimentation
and planning.
