I'v been having problems with an almost total lack of power and stumbling at low RPM ('86 Jetta, but its the same fuel system as any '81 or newer 8V Scirocco). Yesterday, I found a broken ground wire that was supposed to connect to one of the valve cover bolts. I crimped new ring terminals on all three grounds that connect at that spot, and the problem is gone!
