Flywheel Swap

Spring has sprung, and the snow is in retreat. Time to get the cars back on
the road.
I am in the middle of replacing the clutch on my daughter's 82 Scirocco (1.7
& stock 5 speed transmission).   It looks like the flywheel is shot and will
need replacing (cracked and scored). I do have a perfect flywheel from an 83
Rabbit Gti  (U.S. Built) and a new matching clutch kit for the Gti. I could
save her a lot of money if the Gti parts (in particular the flywheel) are
compatible to the 1.7l  Anyone know if it is possible. I see the clutch is
larger than the 1.7 and the flywheel, although has the same diameter, the
height is different and the timing marks are not the same.
