Lights out! dash lights, cig light, and oil light .. why?

Sounds like a fuse or relay to me... although I don't have my Bentley on me to check. 
My entire center console was out when I bought my car, and it drove me nuts trying to figure it out.  Turns out the PO had a stereo system, and shorted something which in turn burnt out all the bulbs on the center console wiring.  Great fun!  Hopefully this is not the case for you.
