durability of JH block internals and going turbo

Well just for the record, Mr. Soapbox :p

I never was planning on running on CIS - it's going to be Digi 1 at a
minimum....put that in yer JH and smoke it... :D

Sorry, this might turn into a semi-rant, but...

People always ask if this motor will handle this boost, is it good for
this horsepower, yada yada yada. If you're on CIS and a stock
mechanical advance distributor, you're going to run into fueling and
ignition issues WELL before the strength of the internals even comes
CLOSE to being in question. Hacked-on fuel and timing mods will get you
nowhere near the precision that good standalone engine management will.
Just today I heard of a JH that put down 274whp...I can guarantee that
it was NOT using the stock fueling system.

Engines hardly ever self-destruct because of too much power...it's
always too much timing or too little fuel, which results in broken shit.
As a matter of fact, in all my days of reading this list, the hardcore
forum, or vortex, I can't recall once instance where a rod got bent or
an engine just gave up because it was physically being pushed too hard.
You're going to run out of tuning, reach the limits of your fuel octane,
or both before the internals give out.

Just a thought/rant/soapbox...

I think the general consensus on the VW Hardcore forum is that the stock
JH internals are good for at least 200 hp. You might want to go there at
www.vwsport.com and look for the Hardcore forum. The top thread is about
the easy way to get 200 hp.
As far as new pistons; new as in slightly oversize? of something special
like forged?
I think the stock pistons can handle it, but if they're worn or there is
a lot of blowby, that might cause some problems.
