Getting car ready to paint

I have chrome trim along the bottom of the car as well as on the windshield, 
and doors. How can I prep this metal work for paint?
Do I need to rough the surface to hold better?
I want the paint to stick well and (hopefully) not scratch to much.

P.S. I named the car. Its definately a male and roars at the right times.
