A friend of mine has an '87 Golf 8V GTI that recently had an engine swap =
with a rebuilt engine installed, it has a JH block with a Hydro head, =
problem is excessive valve train noise at lower RPM's (sounds like a =
Diesel! and not like a worn ticking lifter!), it quiets up with higher =
RPM and doesn't appear to suffer a lack of power, at first I thought =
(and somewhat still do) that it may have been assembled with a solid =
lifter oil pump instead of one for hydraulic?, we checked oil pressure =
and it is 20 psi at idle warm and 60 psi at approx. 3k RPM warm, I've =
never had the hydro head apart for one of the later hydro heads and =
don't have repair manual that covers one, could anyone that has more =
experience with hydraulic lifters enlighten me with the internal =
operation of the upper lubrication system for the lifters, i.e.: oil =
squirter (located where fourth cam bearing usually is) how to test it =
ect..., We have already pulled the valve cover and all was clean, no =
excessive play in lifters noticed, and cam looks good, by listening with =
stethoscope noise is most pronounced between cylinders 3&4 in valvetrain =
area. Anyone experience similar?? Thanks... =20
