Slight OT: Golf Brake Prob's

Its my damn '91 Golf GL giving me problems again. I am trying to get the 
caliper piston back so I can finish with the new pads I just put on. Bently 
says to just "push it back" and I pushing, tapping. prying, banging (with a 
hammer) and the damn thing hasnt moved. I took the top off of the master 
cylender and the fluid is at the same level. What am I doing wrong?
