16v Injector Q's

Don't push the out from the back! You'll crush the tips and they'll never
spray right!!

You need to pry them out. This can be done with multiple screwdrivers as
long as you're very very careful. I don't recommend it though. I use a
pair of very long pliers that has curled half-circle things near the tips
and I swear its the perfect tool for the job. But that works only when the
intake is on the car because you pry against the valve cover.

If the injector lines are off of them (or on, I guess), I would just grab
and pull really really hard. Put the intake in a vice or something. The
injectors can really be hard to get out because the o-rings get very thick
and brittle after 10-15 years. Definitely replace the o-rings (the big
ones and the little ones at the tips of the injectors) - it's like $8
for all of them.

Replace the shrouds while you have the intake off. Use a 13mm allen key to
get the upper brass piece out. It's loctited on so you need some force to
break them free. Use one of those 12 point triple square tools turned
around with a 1/2" socket on it as a 13mm allen.

I bought some special loctite to put on the retainiers but you can
probably get away with high temp stuff of any variety (remember, the lower
intake bolts right on to the head, which gets hot!)

I spent the money on the bentley recommended stuff because I don't like
half-assing things on the fuel system. An engine fire from an injector
insert backing out is damn unlikely but I don't wanna be the guy that it
happens to.

Get all new shrouds since they're cheap and all new o-rings for the
shrouds (13 cents a piece?) that go between the shrouds and the brass
inserts.

BIG TIP ALERT - when removing and especially installing the new big
o-rings, use fuel or carb cleaner as a lubricant. Not WD-40, not silicone,
not brake cleaner, not penetrating oil. You get the picture. Lubing makes
it soo much easier and reduces the likelyhood of you breaking one of the
new o-rings (buy extras, BTW.. you probably will break one or several)

The key to getting the injectors in and out is lots of pressure straight
in and straight out (respectively). You won't get anywhere just prying up
one side.
