Heater-core..do we need 'em?

Yeah, I thought that too, but cars have other resistance heaters, like
bun warmers, for instance...of course, we're talking a LOT more BTU
here.  Speaking of a fire hazard, about 8 years ago in England a guy
showed me his Caddy equipped with - get this - a gasoline-fired heater.
 He had it mounted behind the driver's seat, IIRC.  Talk about a fire
hazard.  It didn't make sense to me because it doesn't get *that* cold
in England, just miserably chilly with wind, sleet, and rain.
