(Compression test) Re: Pinging or stuttering, best of two evils

what are the formula's PLEASE!  I am dying to figure out my CR.

Actually, you can determine your engine's ACTUAL CR by doing a compression
test. This is not the theoretical compression ratio by any means, but the
true CR taking into account all the worn rings, bad valves, and cracked
pistons that your engine is actually living with. 
 Unless your engine is in perfect mechanical shape, (and has a very mild
cam) the actual CR will be something less (sometimes a LOT less!) than the
theoretical, but it will give you an idea.  It only takes a few minutes with
the pressure gage and a few seconds with a calculator.

Oh. I thought you guys were talking about cc'ing the combustion chamber or
something.

So I can figure out my compression ratio by doing a comrpession test? Hey, I
have a cheapo compression test gauge deal-io that I have never even used. 

How do I do this and what should I be looking for?
