Hard Fuel Lines

Neal, I know this doesn't really answer your question, but I use A2
plastic lines on my A1 VW's, both gas and diesel. The plastic is flexible
enough to follow the fuel line routing up the floor pan until you get to
the bend up to the engine compartment. Here I splice in a piece of high
pressure neoprene (5/16 aka 7.9mm is a VERY snug fit over the 8mm OD hard
platic lines) I then use band (not gear) clamps at the splices. If you
can get nickel-plated or stainless band clamps you don't have to worry
about corrosion. The 5/16 line is such a tioght fit (you need to warm the
rubber with a hair dryer or heat gun then use a bit of grease/oil/silicone
to get them to slip over) that I actually had a broken clamp on my 2nd A1
Jetta GLI on the pressure side that never leaked a drop.

On the gas cars I splice into the steel lines at the join before the fuel
filter /distributor (they rarely rust at this location.) On the diesels I
just go back to neproene and then straight into the fuel filter/ return
line.

Something worth considering if you're looking for a corrosion resistant
solution. The only thing I do is check the condition of the splices
whenever I'm under the car.
