Scirocco Predecessor

It seems pretty obvious that the SP-1 and SP-2 is the early lineage of the
Scirocco. The visual conception alone makes the case. Add in the history on
the bottom of the page and it is a slam dunk.
1.8o (S)P-1 => (S)cirocco coincidence? Probably not. Who is gonna be the
first do a 1.8T SP-1? :)

Here's an interesting piece of the below web page:

VW do Brasil was designing a SP-3 with a Water Cooled
1.8 engine, but big guys in Wolfsburg told them to
stop the project because VAG was gonna start making
the Scirocco in Brazil, an it was supposed to replace
the SP-2 in Brazil. What happened then? The project
was shelved and the Scirocco never made it to Brazil.
Unfortunately the SP-3 was never made. It would have
been a great sports car.
