Insane speed in german cars... slightly OT, had to share...

yeah, i agree.... if gears are too short, red line will be reached before=
it can reach it top speed potential...and if too tall, not enough power =
to overcome the effects of wind resistance and drag. -Pretty hard to find=
"optimum gearing" for a VW trying to achieve that speed

As far as the green background goes, I think it stays on with each reply =
after the original person sent it (i think Josh started this one if i'm n=
ot mistaken). Wish i could change it.

BY THE WAY....HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN A SPEEDOMETER ON A VW THAT WILL READ U=
P TO 320km/h or 200mph, or even 180mph????? =20
i haven't... but if they do exist i would love to see one (besides the on=
e in the picture we are talking about). i suppose the Phaeton might come=
 with a 180....maybe.

Brando-
(how do I remove the background??)
Weight has virtually nothing to do with top speed..only horsepower and dr=
ag count in this equation. =20
That also leaves out gear ratio to the extent that you can be under-geare=
d and be rpm-limited, but gearing up (lower numerically) doesn't not assu=
re more top speed. Once optimum gearing is found (based on hp and drag), =
going up on the gear slows the car down.
Top speed is top speed; the definition is "maximum speed achievable". H=
aving 30 minutes to get there does not add to a car's maximum speed achie=
vable. (and we are debating the issue of a car's...any car's...top speed =
here, right? I want to make sure we are both talking about the same thin=
g )
Peace.
