European Headlights and Rear parking lights.

     Hey 16v nuts,
I can proudly say I have 368,000 miles on my bought new red 87 16v
Scirocco. I built engine, new trans, driveshafts etc. Wanted to mention that
the European headlights have been great for me however I never use the driving
lights. What I did since the driving lights never gave any more light is wire
them in series instead of parallel so the bulbs get half the wattage. At 25
watts per driving light they make great day time running lights. Never drive
without now. No one sees red cars. Too many dumb people on the road anymore.
I also noticed my taillights were never bright. If you pop off the
taillights from the inside of the car you will notice a slot where another bulb
could fit. I think it may be a spot for the fog lights in Germany. I put another
bulb in and had to cut the plastic out in the taillight cover. There is a rear
lens on your car that is never even used at all in the USA. What I have now is
four parking lights from the back instead of the two the car comes with.
Everything like brakes work the same.
I love my car more than anything since 1987 when I bought it new. I have
run the piss out of it so I have gotten in the habit of replacing engine mounts,
transmission mounts, etc. I refuse to go with the hard rear mount due to the
shake. Always use the hard Tectonics front mount.
Have never found a new car to buy yet. Admit I drive a 96 Miata during the
summers but only with the top down. Was interested in the 320 horse WRX Subaru
Impreza but since they won't ship it over here they can keep it. I am much
happier getting 30 mpg. with the .75 5th gear in the trans. Cruising at 100 is
like a walk in the park.
