actual water temp

Both. I have a VDO water temp guage and I also used my hand held unit to
give me a digital readout. In my 82 the guage reads spot on as well as
the VDO unit. In my 84 (No VDO) it reads cooler than actual temps by what
I would guess to be about 15 degrees compared to my 82's stock guage.
