It is a thickness difference, but it's the wrong way.
I have modified A2 strut housings on my Scirocco, with
a spacer into the strut housing "ears" to make them
fit on the smaller knuckles.

But that begs the question: Why not just use A2 strut
housings?

I thik I'd definitely be leaning toward the A2
subframe idea too...
