Buy Corky Bell's book "Maximum Boost" it'll be the best money you've ever
spent.

Until then, here's a summary on wastegate mounting. It bypasses gases around
the turbo, as such you need to choose a location in the EM and also a
location for the gases to rejoin the rest of the exhaust.

Ideal place in EM to mount is to minimize the change in exhaust gas flow
direction, and to make it vents equally from all cylinders.

This usually translates to a position close to the turbo, and with the
wastegate leaning away from the cylinder head.

The "best" way to route the exhast gases that flow through the wastegate, is
to give them their own mini exhaust system, including muffler.

If you want to be kind to the environment and use a catalytic converter,
then pipe the exhausts back into the downpipe as far back from the turbo as
possible. 24" from the turbo outlet will work fine, and will cut down on
weight.

Too close and the turbulence from the wastegate gases will upset the flow
from the turbo outlet.
