best way to mount a wastegate

As I understand it, a wastegate re-directs exhaust gas *around* the turbo,
instead of through it.  So ever wastegate I have seen is right at the
turbo (or built into it).   Are you thinking of a Blow Off Valve?  They
can be placed just about anywhere in the plumbing, pre-intake manifold...
