Knock sensing downgrade?

hi all,

Just wondering, On the 16v, i know knock sensing can be good, but was
wondering, on a stock 9a engine CR  how high of octane would you need to
be able to dispense with the KS ignition, or are you always better off
with it? it would seem like at higher RPM's (i/e up to 8k) it coudl start
mistaking overall engine noise for knock??

anyway, just thinking out loud.
