Steering play

Jack up each (or both) of the front wheels and shake the wheels (being
careful not to drop a car on yourself) back and forth and see where the play
is, and start by replacing anything that has any noticeable play in it.
Then progress to the rest of the tie rod ends and joints if you need to.
Some of those parts may be fine, though. Don't worry too much that you will
need to replace the rack. Even if the source of the play isn't easy to see,
replacing joints and ends will probably do some good.
