[waay ot] No route to host problems

I'm replying to All, hoping the OT in the header will save me from
flames.

Off the top of my head (being a specializing non-specialist and all) I
can say you might investigate building a local routing table on your
local computer. It's a drag, (esp if you are maintaining a number of
systems), to keep up to date but it might help to resolve those frequent
hosts who may drop off the Net from time to time.
