16v assembly trouble

With this in mind, I sure hope you didn't bend any valves!! If you crank=
ed
the motor over to TDC by checking where the #1 piston is and the crank/ca=
m
pulley marks are 90 degrees off then more than likely the keyway is shear=
ed
off. BUT, this doesn't mean that there are bent valves, only that one o=
f
the pulley keyways is sheared. If you replaced the crank pulley and/or t=
he
cam pulley and put all 4 pistons at the lowest point possible in the
cylinders (all at the same time which would be about an 1/8th to a 1/4 of=
 a
turn off of TDC according to #1 cylinder piston height), then you should =
be
able to turn the cam pulley to the right position and install the timing
belt without damaging the valves. You may have gotten lucky but it seems
like something would have made contact at 90 degrees off. Verify this vi=
a
the Bentley or something before you try it but it should work. HTH!!

Dave

How does the vbelt mark correlate with the mark on the flywheel? If it is=
nt
correct; are you sure you put the flywheel on correctly? If so then you n=
eed
to replace the crank sprocket or the cam sprocket as the built in key may
have sheared and you cant see it without taking the pulley(s) off.
