[tech]: how to tell how big yer block is?

trying to figure out the true size of the block on my new 16v. po says its a 
1.8 bored to 2.0l. i think it feels too slow. any way to check short of 
pulling the head? if i pull the oil pan, will i be able to measure the 
cylinders? obviously i won't be able to measure the combustion chamber, but 
all i need to know is if it's a bored 1.8- i should be able to tell the 
diameter of the cylinder, right? tia,
