stupid Germans ..... was : RE: For the D&D crew



Don't get too worried about it, Dirk.

The problem with symbols is that they can mean
different things to different people.

If you think the flag symbolizes slavery (some people
do) and you proudly fly it for that reason (sadly,
some people do), then you can expect some very nasty
feedback from myself and many other people around the
world.

If you think the flag symbolizes other things such as
freedom or heritage (some people do), and you proudly
fly it for those reasons (some people do), then I and
other people might not mind.

The problem comes when someone assumes that the
Confederate flag means only slavery (some people do),
and automatically assume anyone flying it must be
pro-slavery (alas, some people do).

No matter where you fit in above, it /is/ a
significant part of US history whether you're proud of
it or not!
