OT 99 Jetta key Q

John,

You are correct the key itself is unique for VW (laser cut from the factory) 
and the transmitter actual is part of the theft deterent and engine module 
intialization sequence. This is what I was told by a vw mechanic, basically 
don't lose your keys or VWofA gets ya.
