fargin' fuel pump

right before cincy i replaced my outside(main) fuel pump due to a strnge 
noise coming from the pump and the car sputtering. about a weekago the same 
syptoms returned. i ripped off the pump, reurned it, and have just but the 
2nd replacement pump on. same symptoms. fuel pump doesn't sound right, car 
sputters and stalls. could this be caused by the in-the-tank pump being bad? 
is it symptoms of something else? or am i the unluckiest scirocco owner in 
the world buying all the bad pumps ever made? somebody help before stripe 
gets pushed into lake erie!
