What color is the wire for oil temp gauge and HVAC backlight?

Previous owner had a nice CD player installed, and I guess to power the 
lights on it, he spliced into the factory harness for the AC control's  
backlight (and the oil temp gauge - I think they are the same wire?).  
Anyway, when he removed the unit, he must've done it the old fashioned 
way... *snip*  and now the oil temp and HVAC lights do not work... Any ideas 
what wire to look for?   I lost my good friend Bentley Service Manual on a 
trip I took recently... :-(
