cross country drive responses

Hey, thanks for the quick responses...
The trip won't be till the second week of august (no
precise time of departure as yet) but i believe the
route i should be following most of the way is I-80
(i'd love to cut around the country some and see all
the tricked-out Roc's you folks have... 'specially
that twin 16v-turbo!!).
I could use a touch of other help too. I've been
wanting to do something a little more effective than
the usual cams or intake to up my power, and i work as
a mechanic right now so i can handle an engine
swap...This would be advantageous in a few ways,
including that i'd have a full rebuild first, and that
would probly be a lil more reliable than my current
god-only-knows-the-mileage 1.8 8v (did i mention that
i think the previous owner was some kinda crackhead,
based on the crappy repair work he did to it?) I may
even get to use the shop one weekend, and all the
nifty pneumatic tools!
I've found that the 2.0 16v seems to be the best buy,
but i don't know if it would mate to my existing
tranny (stock (for now) 1985 Karmann Roc). Other
options are a mid-90's 2.0 8v or 80's 1.8 8v, either
of which i would turbocharge before dropping in (i'd
like to turbo that 16v 2.0 as well, but i might just
settle for the mere 50% power increase without mods).
Since i have some tools at home as well, and some
skill, i could do a full rebuild on any of these three
options before the swap, probably even do a swap to
another 1.8 in a matter of two or three hours (even if
i DON'T get to use the shop i work at). I need to know
about compatability issues, ie, what other money would
i have to spend to make a 2.0 16v work with my roc,
assuming i get wiring harness and injection from the
donor car (i also have connections to wreckers thru my
job), ie, tranny, new mounts... is there a kit for the
different motor mounts? Along the same path, what
about a 2.0 8v? Easy enough to turbo (i would think)
and that should yield enough power to be preferable to
a 1.8 16v... All responses are greatly appreciated,
and many many apologies for the extreme length of the
post...
Doruk
