You can't turn it off.
What I do is this:
Write your email, right click your mouse while the cursor is in the body of
the email, click on "select all" in the popup menu, right click again while
the cursor is in the body of the email, select "text" near the top of the
popup menu, select "normal" in the slide out menu.
This is what I do when sending to the list.
