no love on my posts from this morning?

No problem at all. Spreding the love. :-)

For the 8v, the cat is a separate bolt in deal. The factory one has
triple-bolt flanges on both ends, and the downpipe has the matching flange.
You'll still use the one on the car now. Money saved. Yay.

Yup, the holes/intermediate shafts are the same on the ABA and the 3A. You
could source a used one for much cheaper, the $150 is for a brand new one
from TT. Or you could swap the ABA gear over to a 1.8 distributor and then
use the adapter ring in the hole, but the gear is a pisser to get off.
Another thing that I've never tried is to put the 4 window hall rotor from
an older distributor into the ABA distributor. I've heard of someone doing
this and it worked. That would be the cheapest still, assuming you get the
ABA dist. with the block.

Also, make sure you get the oil filter flange with the block. The ABA one is
different from the 1.8l ones. You'll also want to put in the oil pump from
the JH if you use the JH head.

Yeah, that's what I was gathering. The 2.0 8v is a very nice motor you'll
really like it for the effort spent.

Yeah, audi 5k, 4k, or even a VW A2 one. The CIS A2 version of the throttle
body is the easiest because the linkage is easier to change to A1 spec. And
the throttle switches will bolt on easy too.

Also, the cam from a 1.6l motor has slightly more lift than the one in the
1.8. Kinda halfway to a g-grind. Cheap from the junkyard.

One thing that I would recommend on top of the swap (while you're in there)
is to put in a lightened flywheel. The increased rotational mass on the ABA
makes it kinda slow to rev and the lightened flywheel will offset this. The
difference won't be as dramatic as in a 1.8, but that's good, cause it will
be for the wifey. The 2.0 has enough torque down there where you won't have
any troubles with it bogging down off the line.

Eventually you'll want to change the exhaust to flow the extra air, but that
can wait.

Let me know how it goes.
