[NOT MINE] FS: '88 16V Scirocco in PA

humm..

8500$ for a MINT 88, but the question is, what does not work on the car?
then work the price down from that. alot of these single owner car thing
their car will be worth thousands of $$ because , there is out there a
following of scirocco.... Just experience this, guy wanted 2K then made it
fall to 1.5K then1K he finally settled for 750$, go INSPECT the car, and
make a list of items that are ripped, teared, need replacement, fixing and
tabulate a cost, by the time you are done, that car MInt will not be worth
more than 3-4K.

also you said he poure 85 grand into the 82, I do think that you ment 85
hundreds (8,500 not 85,000) because the laterr bumber seems a tad over
zealous in repairs for a car worth 12K at the time.

=>
=>I was recently contacted by a fellow in Uniontown, PA who stumbled upon my
=>website.
=>
=>He's got a stock, pristine red Scirocco that he's thinking of
=>selling so he
=>can buy a plane.  (He's also got a wrecked gold '82 and a '75 Super Beetle
=>Convertible that needs restoration that he's looking to get rid of.)
=>
=>The '88 spends most of its time under the car cover in his garage, and has
=>only 24,424 miles on it. He is the original owner. I have a
=>couple scanned
=>Polaroids of the car, and it looks like a stock red 16V. The pics don't
=>really show any details, but it sounds like the car is mint. He
=>has no idea
=>what a fair asking price is, but he's thinking of the $8500 range. Sounds
=>like he may negotiate. Or, maybe he'll keep it if he doesn't like the
=>offers he gets.  <shrug>
=>
=>Regarding the '82, here's what he sent me in an e-mail: "On the 82, I put
=>around 85 grand on it and then gave it to my son ( mistake). He
=>said he was
=>run off the road and hit a cement parking barrier at the high
=>school, which
=>in turn pushed a lot of the drivetrain back. This was about 15 or so years
=>ago, I think. It's been sitting up in back of the garage ever since. The
=>body is fairly good shape still and just about all the parts are still
=>there. Neighbor kids busted the windshield playing ball but
=>everything else
=>is still intact. It's the gold color with a manual trans. Trans and motor
=>still may be good. ...I don't have a digital camera but the dash is pretty
=>well shot. The fenders, doors and hatch seem good as are some of
=>the smaller
=>parts. Also have a fairly new overhauled motor from an 85 with a rod
=>through the block."
