Judging (was) Get ready to laugh - WF scores are up (rant)

Waterfest judging was obviously a mess. But... there are cases where a zero
is an appropriate score. At a number of the shows that I've judged, there
have been categories for engine compartment/mechanicals or trunk/emergency
equipment. If the hood or the trunk are not open that would be a zero as
those areas are not available to be judged. No judge should ever open a car.
It must be found in a judgeable condition in order to get a score. You would
be surprised at how many people don't get a score for the spare tire as they
don't make it available to be judged.

To protest the judging by not having your car judged will not work. Those
cars are just ignored and the promoters will not get the message as they
only pay attention to the cars that are judged. A better protest might be to
make a little speech during the awards presentation. This would take some
balls but the effect would be tremendous as it would, if properly done,
enlist the pressure of your peers onto the promoters. A big generalization
here: the promoters want the judging to be fair and honest. This is part of
what brings the cars back for the next show.
