Dunlop SP9000's day one...

I dont' get it! The factory recommends 27 PSI front/rear with 175/70 x
13, so you install a wider tire with a much stiffer side wall and jack
the pressure up 30%?
Has anybody seen a plot of slip angle vs. lateral load?
A 205/40 X 16 produces a higher lateral load at a smaller slip angle
than a 175/70 X 13. Increasing tire pressure reduces slip angle for a
given lateral load. Maximum lateral load may increase slightly.
Continuing to increase tire pressure will continue to reduce slip angle
making the tire's breakaway characteristics more abrubt. (Just the
thing for street use!) Also, at some point increasing tire pressure will
DECREASE maximum lateral load.
36-40 PSI is good for autocrossing where if you don't run high pressures
you'll be riding on your sidewalls. But, running at those pressures will
give you a tire you can easily overdrive if you aren't used to it.
Again, I wouldn't want to tell anybody what to do, but 28 PSI gives me
all the responsiveness I need on the street with a 205/40 X 16, even
tire wear with aggresive driving and it has a decent ride too.
