accelerator cable sticking

What would be the best thing to use to lub up a 88 16v accel cable.  It
was sticking this morning when I went to work.  Not sure if it was just
cold enough to cause it to stick or if something truely evil is going
on.  But it did loosed up after about 15min of playing with it.  Would
like to not have that problem again.
