help! gearbox woes (long)

Not that far away - Central Scotland, Stirling to be exact. ;-)
Don't think there'll be anything inside as there's no hole as such, just a 
little dent and the little narrow crack. I'm just hoping that the temporary 
patch will hold 'till the weekend as the days are still too short to get 
anything useful done outside of work hours.  I'll post the results of my 
experiments.
