No, I think the reason for that is to keep the exhaust away from the tank
and tank strap.

I'd stick with supplied clamps, that way you can adjust it later if you
have to.

Once I got the rear hanger squared away, the exhaust fit is great.
The reason the rear hanger was off on my car, was that I had an early 2"
race downpipe, and the collector WAS about an 1 1/2" longer... I just
separated the exhaust, and cut the 1 1/2" off.
