Cheapass (tm) parts washer/hot tank?

I'm beginning to tear apart the JH head I got for it visit with the Machine
Shop, and I was wondering if any of you have any good, cheap, solutions for
a homemade parts washer?  I have considered a metal trash can half full of
diesel, or possibly a much smaller amount of paint thinner and a paint
brush.  Trying to avoid blowing myself shy high and burning the house down.

Anyone?
